Endodontic/root canal

This area involves removing the tooth’s nerve due to infection or severe pain. The inside of the root is cleaned and shaped to receive a build up and crown, restoring the tooth’s original function.

Endodontics is a dental specialty that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries of the dental pulp, which is the soft tissue inside the tooth that contains nerves and blood vessels. Endodontic treatment, also known as a root canal, is a procedure that is used to remove infected or damaged tissue from within the tooth and save the tooth from extraction.

The procedure is typically recommended when the pulp of a tooth becomes infected or damaged, often due to tooth decay or injury. If left untreated, an infected or damaged pulp can lead to pain, abscesses, and the loss of the tooth. A root canal procedure involves removing the infected or damaged tissue and filling the inside of the tooth with a special material to help preserve the remaining structure of the tooth.

The root canal procedure is usually performed by an endodontist, a dentist who has received specialized training in the diagnosis and treatment of problems with the dental pulp. The procedure is typically done under local anesthesia to numb the area and minimize any discomfort. In some cases, a dental crown may be placed over the treated tooth to help protect it and restore its function.
