Prosthodontic/Cosmetic

Dental prosthetics can be used to treat cases ranging from a single tooth to an entire arch of teeth.

Prosthodontics is a dental specialty that deals with the restoration and replacement of missing teeth and other oral structures. Common prosthodontic treatments include dental prostheses, such as crowns, bridges, dentures, and implant-supported restorations. These treatments can help restore function, improve aesthetics, and enhance the overall health of the mouth.

Cosmetic dentistry focuses on improving the appearance of the teeth and mouth. It may involve procedures such as teeth whitening, veneers, bonding, and reshaping to enhance the appearance of the teeth and smile.

Prosthodontics and cosmetic dentistry may overlap in some cases, as the restoration of missing teeth or the placement of dental prostheses can also have cosmetic benefits. However, the main focus of prosthodontics is on restoring function and improving oral health, while the main focus of cosmetic dentistry is on enhancing the appearance of the teeth and smile.

There are several reasons why a person may need dental prosthetics, including:

  • To replace missing teeth: When a person has lost one or more teeth due to injury, decay, or gum¡ disease, dental prosthetics such as bridges, dentures, or implants can be used to replace the missing teeth and restore function to the mouth.
  • To support a damaged tooth: If a tooth is severely decayed or has suffered trauma, it may be necessary to place a dental crown (a type of dental prosthesis) to protect and support the remaining tooth structure.
  • To correct a malocclusion: A malocclusion, or misalignment of the teeth, can cause functional problems and affect the appearance of the smile. Dental prosthetics such as braces or retainers can be used to correct a malocclusion and improve the alignment of the teeth.
  • To improve the appearance of the teeth: In some cases, dental prosthetics can be used for cosmetic purposes to improve the appearance of the teeth and smile. For example, veneers are thin shells that are placed over the front of the teeth to cover up imperfections and improve the appearance of the smile.

It’s important to note that not all dental problems can be treated with dental prosthetics, and the best course of treatment will depend on the specific needs and goals of the patient.
